Data Powering WhereThen
WhereThen is built on rich, privacy-compliant location and demographic data. The platform brings several datasets together into a single visual interface, giving users a clear view of how busy places are, when the people visit and demographic attributes of those people.
Data Powering WhereThen
The WhereData data sets are derived from pseudonymised GPS location signals shared by mobile apps, giving a reliable and timely picture of real-world activity. WhereData process location data from over 20M monthly device users to create their footfall and footfall origin datasets.
Footfall Data
Source: WhereData
Coverage: Hourly footfall for UK towns and cities
The footfall dataset measures how many people are present in different locations, hour by hour, across the UK. The data helps users understand when and where people spend time - from weekday commuter peaks to weekend leisure patterns.
Footfall Origin Data
Source: WhereData
Coverage: Daily home/destination combination counts
Footfall Origin data provides insights into where visitors to a place come from. This data is combined with UK Census data to identify demographic attributes of the visitors to any place.
UK Census Data
Source: Office for National Statistics (ONS)
Coverage: UK citizens
We integrate open Census data from the ONS to add demographic context to the footfall data. This allows users to understand not just how many people move through a place, but who and what kind of people they are.
Data Quality and Compliance
All WhereData datasets are collected and processed in full compliance with UK GDPR regulations. The data contains no personal information. Each record is fully anonymised and aggregated to protect individual privacy.
